Want to skip the bleach? If you’re going for a dark blue, Splat has a Midnight line of fashion hair dyes designed for dark hair with no bleach needed, and there’s a “Midnight Azure” shade.
Once the bleach has processed and you’ve washed it out, you can apply a fashion dye like Arctic Fox in the shade Poseidon or Keracolor Clenditioner Hair Dye. I recommend pinning back the hair you’re not dying or using foils on the hair you are bleaching while it processes to avoid bleaching unwanted strands. You’ll then need to bleach the part of your hair that you want to be blue. A brilliant, unnatural color isn’t going to show up on un-dyed (or “virgin”) hair. To get this look, you’ll need an at-home hair bleaching kit such as the Manic Panic Flash Lightning Hair Bleach Kit if you don’t already have very light hair.
For instance, the bottom layer of your hair might be bright or maybe just a few chunky strands so your hair can be worn down or tied back to hide the blue part. It’s simply a way of dying your hair blue so it can be hidden or downplayed when needed. Yet, if you’re required to be in more conservative environments like certain offices and professions, then dyeing your hair sky blue might not be in the cards right this moment. My daughter was a little jealous of my new hair color, so I dyed an extension with the color and hot glued it inside a hair band for her so she could have a dramatic purple streak to match. I still want to have fun with my hair and add unexpected pops of color when I can, but I also am not willing to invest hundreds of dollars or commit to something that’s going to look horrible if I can’t make it to the salon every 4-6 weeks. Two very expensive salon visits went into trying to achieve the rose gold color and it barely lasted two weeks before my hair needed a touch-up. Last year, I tried purple highlights and also *tried* to do a rose gold bayalage.
